Happy New Year! We made it through 2020, a year where we spent more time at home than ever before. With a new year comes new goals and resolutions. New Year’s goals and resolutions normally involve health and wealth, but what about the home? You know, the place that has become not only where you retreat after a long day of work, but for a lot of people where they work. I recently moved into a new and larger apartment and still getting things set up, so I figured there was no better time than the beginning of the year to get my house in order!

So in this first week of 2021, let’s all hit the reset button and show our homes some love with these 5 ways to get your home ready for the new year!

Clear the Clutter

In the Kitchen :

Expiration dates are not suggestions, throw away any food that's past it's prime or start out your week with cooking foods that are close to expiring.

Edit your wardrobe. Figure out what items are must-haves and what items must go. Pay it forward and donate your gently used items to your local goodwill.

Get Organized

Organization is key! Use drawer organizers and baskets to divide and conquer those junk drawers and cabinets that you filled with who knows what, during 2020.

Add Some Color

Whether it's painting an accent wall or accent pillows, adding a little color can change the entire look and feel of a room. This is a great way to start the new year and refresh your home.

Create a Cleaning Schedule

Creating a cleaning schedule whether it be daily or weekly, will make your life so much easier and save you The headache of having to do it all at once.

Daily: Dishes go in the dishwasher every night - no excuses! Dirty clothes go in the hamper and jackets or clean clothes are hung in the closet. Bring everything back to its assigned place.

Weekly: Check out this easy to follow weekly cleaning schedule on theSpruce.com

become a plant mom or dad

One of the best ways to boost your mood and breathe life into your space is with greenery. Some of my favorites are the fiddle leaf fig, Monstera, snake plant, and ZZ plant.

Create a dedicated workspace

If you’re like me and living the “work from home” life, it’s important to have a dedicated workspace in order to be able to focus on work.

Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year!
