4 Ways to Refresh Your Home for Spring

IMG_3701.jpeg

The start of a new season is is always a great time to get your life in order and that starts at home! The transition from winter to spring is always a great time to purge and let go of things that no longer brings you joy, a la Marie Kondo, and welcome the new. At the beginning of each season, I like to take a 4 step approach to getting my home in order, which consists of the following:

 1. Deep Clean

Not to be mistaken with your everyday surface cleaning. This is is the roll up your sleeves, rubber glove, grout cleaning, old t-shirt and create a playlist type of cleaning. ( yes I have a playlist for everything)

Ask yourself this :

“When was the last time I dusted off the books on the bookshelf or cleaned the window sills?  And what exactly does it look like under my bed ?? ”

You’d be surprised at the amount of dust and dirt that accumulates over a short period of time, especially if you have hardwoods, like me. It might be an all-day process but you’ll feel such a great sense of accomplishment when you’re done and probably breathe a little easier, now that the dust is gone!

2. Purge or Put Away

Whether you’re packing away your winter clothes or realizing that certain clothes are just not meant to have a reoccurring role in your wardrobe, deciding what you need and what you can live without is the perfect way to welcome in, the new season.

  • Clothes and shoes that I no longer want, have two options: Sell or Donate. My go-to places to sell my gently loved items are Poshmark (feel free to shop my closet) and Crossroads Trading, a local LA consignment shop.

  • Clothes from the previous season are packed away in my under bed storage or moved towards the back of my closet.

  • Heavier bedding gets packed away and replaced with a light weight comforter and lighter colored bedding (My bedding tends to change with the seasons)

3. Organize

There’s nothing like an organized home to make you feel like your life is back in order. For me, when my place is out of order, life feels out of order. The areas I focus on the most are drawers, the kitchen pantry/drawers, my vanity area, and my closet. Everything has a place and that’s where it should stay!

4. Update

Brighten up your space for spring by making the following small tweaks and updates to your decor:

  • new bedding

  • a fresh coat of paint

  • lighter-colored shower curtain and/or bath towels

  • swap out your pillow covers

  • fresh flowers or a new house plant
